Joe Bosence

Background and Experience

Joe has been working in the historic buildings sector for 25 years. He has in depth specialist knowledge of a wide range of traditional techniques and methods relevant to conservation and preservations of historic buildings.

Joe leads a team who provide a comprehensive set of skills to deliver complex projects. Providing specialist interior joinery, lime plaster and render, and slate coverings.

Joe started out in the trade working for his father Oliver Bosence who has a considerable reputation locally and across Devon for his encyclopedic knowledge of historic building materials and techniques.

Following the family interest and passion for the historic built environment, he has acquired a far-ranging and detailed knowledge of building materials, techniques and practices. Alongside these material skills Joe has a comprehensive appreciation of the building regulations and practices that are pertinent to the historic building sector.

Joe has worked with grade I, II and II* listed buildings for many years. All the members of the team are skilled in delivering top quality crafted building techniques for listed properties. They are also experienced in working to the detail of Listed Building consent to ensure the care and preservation of special architectural and historic features.  For instance, this includes lime in all its forms, from mortar for traditional stonework to interior lime plaster and exterior lime render. As well as joinery, slate work, roof coverings and damp management.

Joe’s role as Site Manager requires planning and scheduling skills, inventory and budget control as well as working with trades-people.

His knowledge of the geographical areas that he covers is extensive. The skills base he has is broad and yet specific to the materials commonly used in older building in South Devon and Dartmoor. During 25 years of working locally he has built a network of tradespeople and craftsmen who work together to deliver an efficient and friendly building service.
